Why I Left the Bootcamp Life Behind: A Story of Burnout, Breakthroughs, and Building Something Better

How I went from running weight loss bootcamps to helping clients achieve real, lasting results with a wellness-first fitness approach.

Years ago, I was known for running high-energy bootcamp fitness classes.
We packed the room. The music was loud. The calorie burn? Off the charts.
Gyms would promote programs like “Lose 30 Pounds in 30 Days,” and people signed up in droves.

They showed up five times a week, sometimes even doubling up classes in one day.
The results? Impressive—at least at first.
People lost weight. Clothes fit better. Compliments rolled in.

But then something started happening…

The Problem with Quick Fixes

A few months after the challenge ended, I’d see those same clients come back—frustrated and defeated.

“I gained it all back on vacation.”
“I stopped for a few weeks and everything returned.”
“Can I do the program again? It worked so well last time.”

I began to wonder… Did it really work?

If the results weren’t sticking, if people kept feeling like they had to “start over,”
maybe the bootcamp model wasn’t as effective as it seemed.

People were chasing weight loss through restriction, overtraining, and stress.
They weren’t building sustainable health—they were just burning out.

I Was Burning Out, Too

Running non-stop classes as a personal trainer had me physically and emotionally exhausted.
I started to explore the real pillars of wellness:
✅ Sleep
✅ Stress management
✅ Mobility
✅ Sustainable nutrition
✅ Proper recovery

And most importantly, I started asking better questions:

  • What if movement didn’t have to be extreme to be effective?
  • What if nutrition didn’t mean cutting everything out?
  • What if people could actually feel good during their transformation?

From Bootcamp to Wellness Coaching

At the height of the pandemic, I took a leap and launched my own business—offering online fitness coaching rooted in real health.

It wasn’t just about weight loss anymore. It was about helping people who felt:

  • Disconnected from their body
  • Burned out from extreme workouts
  • Overwhelmed by fad diets and gimmicks

And the response blew me away.

A community formed—people who were tired of doing it the hard way and ready to get results the right way.
People who didn’t want to spend every day in the gym, but still wanted to feel strong, mobile, and confident.

Today: A New Kind of Personal Training in Rancho Cucamonga (and Beyond)

Now, I coach both online and in my private training space in Rancho Cucamonga, where I help busy adults:

  • Improve mobility and reduce back pain
  • Rebuild strength without overtraining
  • Restore energy by improving sleep and lowering stress

Some clients are seeing better bloodwork, better posture, and even hearing things like:

“What’s your secret?” — from their doctors!

But it’s not a secret. It’s just a smarter, bigger picture way to train.

Why This Matters

If you’re constantly restarting your fitness journey…

Awareness Training-Transformative Health and Fitness

P.S. I want to be clear I don’t think fitness bootcamps are bad. People who join them just need to be sure that they have the foundation of mobility, flexibility, the know-how of how to eat to fuel their body, and a commitment to their sleep and recovery.
