ELDOA – Be free of Body Pain, Have Better Posture

ELDOA for back pain and posture

The ELDOA Method is a series of posture poses that improves joint motion for any type of individual. With the goal of applying internal tension to “decompress”, you can reduce pressures on the spine discs, improve blood flow, and improve symptoms of pain.

Designed by French osteopath Guy Voyer DO, the ELDOA (Etirements Longitudinaux avec Decoaptition Osteo-Articulaire) Which translates to L.O.A.D.S in English (Longitudinal Osteoarticular Decoaptation Stretching). It utilizes myofascial stretching to put tension around a primary joint, making it the center of “separating forces.” We use the tension of the fascia to put our body in a normal position to strengthen the posture.

Why Work On Posture?

Maintaining good posture under load leads to safer movement. Additionally, muscle growth is dependent on proper form, and posture plays a role in exercising with optimal form.

When we consistently practice good posture, the benefits extend beyond the gym. Better breathing, improved cardio, better blood flow, optimized nervous system, and increased strength and power all contribute to a higher quality of life.

You can improve your posture by using the ELDOA technique to leverage the body’s myofascial tissue networks to apply “separating forces” on specific joints, promoting postural alignment. While ELDOA involves stretching, it differs significantly from traditional stretching methods such as an inversion table.

Two Terms You Should Know

Decoaptation refers to reducing of compression forces at a joint, which is the goal of ELDOA.

Fascia is a thin layer of fibrous tissue that surrounds muscles and other organs, acting as the connective element that maintains the body’s structural integrity.

Considered the “magic bullet” for back pain.

What Are the Benefits of the ELDOA Method?

The ELDOA method offers a wide range of benefits, whether practiced on your own or incorporated into clinical settings. Here are some of the key advantages of this method:

  • Better Posture
Improved overall posture through targeted exercises.
  • Greater Body Awareness
Increased awareness of your body’s alignment and positioning.
  • Better Joint Movement
Enhanced joint function and movement efficiency.
  • Increased Strength
Strength gains, particularly in stabilizing muscles.
  • Pain Relief
Reduction in chronic and acute pain, especially in the back and spine.

ELDOA’s can be used to open more space for the ribs (pictured here), the shoulders, neck, hips, and back.

How to start an ELDOA Routine Today

The ELDOA method is not just about improving day-to-day mobility; it’s also a great warm-up or cool-down technique that enhances the mind-muscle connection. By including ELDOA in your routine, you’ll not only increase your mobility but also prepare your body for safe exercise.

Because the postures are very specific, to get the most out of an ELDOA exercise for mobility, posture, and to manage pain, it is recommended to work with an ELDOA practitioner to guide you. Once you know how to do the exercise correctly, you can practice on your own with confidence.
